For my year long senior thesis at Hampshire College (Division III) I studied the music of Lukasz Gottwald, the most successful post millennial pop music composer. Through transcription, analysis, and basic statistics I identified musical characteristics in his 24 most successful compositions. I created seven pieces of music experimenting with these characteristics trying to answer the question; What makes pop music catchy?
